NPFL Youth League: Remo Stars, Ikorodu City Seal Ikenne Zone Playoff Spots

Remo Stars and Ikorodu City have booked their places in the finals playoff of the 2025 NPFL Youth League from the Southwest zone, with a game to spare.

After four matches each, both sides sit on 10 points, having played out a goalless draw against each other on Thursday following a one-day break in fixtures.

Ikorodu City kicked off Matchday 4 with a convincing 3-0 victory over Kwara United, halting the Ilorin side’s hopes of a late push for qualification. Kwara United had revived their chances in Matchday 3 with a 3-0 win over Shooting Stars, but their momentum was cut short. David Peter struck twice in quick succession in the 28th and 33rd minutes, before Gazali Ibrahim added a third on 43 minutes to seal the win.

In the following game, Remo Stars produced a dominant display, thrashing Sunshine Stars 5-0 to edge ahead of Ikorodu City on goal difference. Daniel Arierhi opened the scoring after 17 minutes, with Akinocchio Mervielle doubling the lead two minutes into the second half. Saka Yusuf made it 3-0 in the 67th minute, Arierhi grabbed his second on 74 minutes, and Imram Musa completed the rout three minutes from time.

Shooting Stars’ poor run continued as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Bendel Insurance, with Oshodi Miracle scoring the only goal in the 10th minute.

The Ikenne zonal qualifiers will wrap up on Saturday, August 10, while the other zonal playoffs get underway in Umuahia and Kano.
