Kwara United earned a valuable point on the road after a goalless draw with Warri Wolves in their NPFL Matchday 4 fixture at the Southern Delta University Stadium, Ozoro.
The Harmony Boys began brightly, controlling the tempo and creating the first clear chance in the 25th minute when Johnmark Aule Shirsha forced the Wolves goalkeeper into a difficult save that led to a corner.
Despite their pressure, Kwara United could not find the breakthrough before the break, while Warri Wolves offered little threat going forward.
The second half saw the hosts push harder, but Kwara’s defensive unit of Suraj Ayeleso, Kabiru Muhammed, Saheed Olaniyi, Ibrahim Yahaya and Victor Adeoye held firm. Substitute Obiorah Kingsley came close for the visitors in the 58th minute, but his effort was also kept out.
Warri Wolves nearly stole the win late on, only for the Harmony Boys’ defence to maintain their composure and secure a share of the spoils.
Head Coach Tunde Sanni hailed his side’s resilience and said the contest provided the perfect build-up for their CAF Confederation Cup tie.
"It was a good game and a good test ahead of Asante Kotoko. I believe Asante cannot do more than what Wolves did here today, and if we can survive this, we can survive in Ghana," Sanni said.
Kwara United now sit on five points from four matches and will turn their attention to Sunday’s Confederation Cup clash with Asante Kotoko at the Accra Stadium.
