Rivers United players and technical crew have expressed profound gratitude to the State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), for approving air travel to Maiduguri, Borno State, for their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 3 clash against El-Kanemi Warriors.
The message of appreciation was conveyed upon the team’s arrival at the General Muhammadu Buhari International Airport, Maiduguri, on Friday.
Team Assistant Captain, Osagie Onisodumeya, hailed the gesture as a demonstration of fatherly care and commitment to the team’s welfare.
“We want to thank our number one supporter, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), who has consistently shown us that he is a Father. We are happy because our welfare is a top priority. We did not have to face the challenge of the long journey, bad roads, and risks. We assure him and Rivers people that we will do our best not to let the state down,” Osagie said.
He also extended appreciation to the club’s management led by Chief Dr. Okey Kpalukwu for their relentless efforts in ensuring the team meets its objectives.
Forward Okon Aniekeme, scorer of the first goal in the 2025/26 NPFL season, echoed the same sentiment. “We are all happy as you can see. We thank the Sole Administrator for approving our travel by air, and we will do our best to ensure we do not let the state down,” he stated.
Technical Manager, Finidi George, noted that air travel would greatly benefit the team by reducing fatigue and avoiding security concerns, thus boosting their chances of a positive result.
The squad departed Port Harcourt aboard a ValueJet flight, connecting through Abuja before landing in Maiduguri via MaxAir. Spirits were high as the players looked forward to Sunday’s encounter against El-Kanemi Warriors, filled with optimism and determination to secure a favourable result.
