Nasarawa United head coach, Mangut Mbwas, has praised his players’ determination and resilience following their dramatic 1-0 away victory against Bendel Insurance on Matchday Seven of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League season.
The Solid Miners snatched all three points at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, on Saturday evening, courtesy of a stoppage-time strike from substitute Garba Mohammed. The result extended Nasarawa United’s fine run of form and strengthened their position at the top of the NPFL table.
Speaking after the match, Coach Mbwas expressed his delight with the team’s performance, highlighting their discipline, tactical adjustment, and fighting spirit.
“It’s a thing of joy to get the maximum points, whether home or away,” Mbwas said. “Bendel Insurance came out aggressively after drawing their last home game, but we stayed organised and pushed till the very end. The boys never gave up, and we were rewarded with a goal in the final moments.”
The gaffer credited his players for maintaining composure under pressure and revealed that his second-half substitutions were key to changing the game’s momentum.
“We started slowly, but as the game progressed, we adjusted. The changes we made in the second half brought fresh energy and balance to the team. I’m very proud of their effort,” he added.
Mbwas also acknowledged the strong support system around the club, thanking the Nasarawa State Government, led by Governor Engr. Abdullahi Sule, and the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, for their continuous encouragement.
“Our motivation comes from many fronts — from the players themselves, from the governor, from the commissioner, and from our loyal fans. Their belief in us keeps driving the team forward,” he noted.
Looking ahead, Mbwas said his team would approach their next fixture with focus and respect as they prepare to host Rangers International FC of Enugu in Lafia on Sunday, 12 October 2025.
“Every match is important, and we treat all opponents with respect. Our goal is to maintain this momentum and keep improving as the season progresses,” he concluded.
Nasarawa United remain unbeaten in six of their seven games so far, collecting 16 points to stay top of the NPFL standings.
