Enyimba FC’s Assistant Coach, Ndubuisi Nduka, has described his side’s 2–1 home defeat to newly promoted Warri Wolves as “a very bitter pill to swallow” and “like a thunderbolt.”
Speaking to journalists after the match in Aba, Nduka expressed deep disappointment over the result, admitting that it left the team questioning where things went wrong.
“This is a very bitter pill, very difficult. I don’t know how to explain it. When I think of the performance of the boys from week one through to week seven, and from week eight the whole thing is going into tatters,” he said.
The coach revealed that the team had made thorough preparations for the encounter following their defeat in Owerri to Khun Khalifat, but things still fell apart on matchday.
“After our game in Owerri, the boys promised to get it right. We did everything right, prepared well, gave them sufficient rest. But look at it today. Football can be very funny sometimes. We’ve played tougher matches here and still came out of it, but today, we didn’t quite get it right,” Nduka lamented.
He added that the technical crew would take a hard look at the team’s mistakes and work towards finding solutions.
“We are not going to give up. We will talk to ourselves, know where we got it wrong. It’s not something emotions will solve. We’ll look at the realities and find a solution. I think we can fix it, and it will start showing from our next match,” he assured.
The match itself was a frustrating one for the Aba Giants, who created several scoring chances but failed to make them count.
Warri Wolves took the lead in the 18th minute when Enyimba defender Mohammed Hussaini scored an own goal under pressure. Ezekiel Edidiong equalised for Enyimba in the 27th minute, but the visitors regained the advantage in the 66th minute through Tejiri Emonena, who sealed the victory.
The defeat continues Enyimba’s worrying dip in form since week seven. The former champions managed only a home draw against Rivers United before losing back-to-back to newly promoted sides Khun Khalifat and Warri Wolves, both away and at home.
Nduka, however, remains confident that the team will bounce back stronger in their next outing against Plateau United on Friday, 24 October 2025 in Jos.
