Kwara United’s goalkeeper Nurudeen Badmus was the standout performer as the Harmony Boys played out a goalless draw against Shooting Stars (3SC) on Sunday at the Rashidi Yekini Main Bowl, George Innih Stadium, Ilorin.
The home side started strongly, pressing 3SC’s defence with Johnmark Aule and Ini Emmanuel causing early problems. Despite this pressure, the visitors’ defence held firm. Junior Aimufua had a notable attempt in the 37th minute but failed to find the net.
After the break, 3SC upped their intensity, but Kwara United’s defensive resilience, especially Badmus’ crucial saves, kept the score level. Arinze Ogbonna’s effort hit the crossbar, and his close-range header was cleared, while Alao Mohammed missed a chance to put the home team ahead.
Badmus’ outstanding performance earned him the Cyteck Man of the Match award, with sponsorship credited to Engr. Ahmed Olaide, Ambassador Yahaya Seriki, and Coach Usman Biffo.
Head Coach Ashifat Suleiman expressed frustration after the match, saying Kwara United were unlucky not to secure all three points. He criticised the physicality of 3SC, which disrupted his team’s rhythm and led to two injuries for the visitors in the first half.
“3SC played very aggressive and physical football. It affected them too, they lost two players to injury in the first half with that physicality. We will go back, regroup, and make up for the lost points,” Suleiman said.
Kwara United remain 11th on the NPFL table with 18 points from 14 games. They face Barau next weekend in Kano.
