The Nigeria Women Football League has confirmed the relegation of Castmog Ladies from the 2025/2026 NWFL Premiership after the club failed to meet mandatory registration and licensing requirements.
The announcement, issued by NWFL Media Director Samuel Ahmadu on Monday, revealed that Castmog Ladies ignored repeated warnings given to three Premiership clubs to comply with the league’s registration standards. Despite reminders, the Abeokuta side missed the deadline and fell short of the compulsory conditions.
NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, said the Secretariat has already begun adjusting competition logistics to reflect the updated structure.
“We have a responsibility to protect the integrity of the league, and compliance with registration and licensing requirements is a non-negotiable part of that process,” Shabi said.
She added that strict adherence to the rules is key to sustaining a credible, competitive and progressive women’s football system nationwide. Updated schedules and operational details will be released in the coming days.
“Our focus is to ensure the season proceeds smoothly on Wednesday, November 26, 2025. Updated fixtures and communication will be issued to all clubs, and we remain committed to transparency and professionalism at every stage,” she stated.
The NWFL confirmed that all other affected clubs met the required standards, leaving Castmog Ladies as the only team unable to comply.
With the Ogun State club now officially relegated, the Premiership season will run with 19 teams. Rivers Angels, who were initially scheduled to face Castmog Ladies in the opening fixture, will observe a bye on those matchdays along with other clubs set to meet them later in the campaign.
