Kwara United head coach Ashifat Suleiman has urged his players and supporters to remain calm after their 2–0 defeat to El-Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri brought an end to the club’s growing momentum in the NPFL.
Suleiman admitted the result was disappointing but maintained that the setback would not derail the team’s progress. His side started with intent but fell behind in the 37th minute when Muktar Ismail pounced on a rebound from a free-kick to give the hosts the lead.
Kwara United nearly levelled shortly before the break through Johnmark Aule, but the El-Kanemi defence held firm as the Ilorin side went into half-time trailing.
After the restart, chances fell to Babatunde Bright, who struck the woodwork, and Ogbonna Arinze, who sent a header inches wide. Despite their pressure, the equaliser never came, and El-Kanemi doubled their lead in the 80th minute through Daddy AbdulRahman.
Speaking after the match, Suleiman described the defeat as unfortunate and confirmed that the team would return home to regroup and prepare for their next fixture against Shooting Stars in Ilorin on Sunday.
Kwara United now sit 12th on the NPFL table after 13 matches.
