Niger Tornadoes FC snapped their two-game losing streak with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Katsina United at the Minna Township Stadium on Matchday thirteen of the NPFL season.
Goals from Sarki Ismail and Abdulrasheed Shehu Dabai, one in each half, secured the vital three points for the Ikon Allah Boys, who had suffered back-to-back defeats before this clash. Katsina United, meanwhile, had drawn their last two games and were eager to break their winless run.
Niger Tornadoes started the match with intensity and were rewarded early. In the 10th minute, Clinton Jephta’s clever play set up Ismail Sarki, who calmly finished to put the hosts ahead. Despite Katsina United’s efforts to respond, Tornadoes’ defence remained disciplined, taking a slender lead into the interval.
The second half saw Niger Tornadoes maintain pressure and create chances, though it was Abdulrasheed Shehu Dabai who made the decisive breakthrough. Capitalising on a defensive lapse, Dabai skilfully nutmegged his marker before slotting home to double the lead.
Tornadoes’ defence held firm in the closing stages, successfully repelling Katsina United’s attacks to preserve the clean sheet.
After the match, Coach Majin Mohammed praised his team’s resilience and determination to grind out the victory following recent setbacks. He thanked the supporters for their unwavering patience and promised continued improvement.
The coach also expressed confidence ahead of their upcoming trip to Enugu, stating the team will approach the match against Rangers International with the mindset of securing a positive result.
