Katsina United have been slammed with multiple penalties after the Nigeria Premier Football League found the club guilty of breaching the Framework and Rules during their Matchday 12 fixture against Barau FC.
According to the league body, Katsina United failed to provide adequate and effective security, which allowed unauthorised individuals to enter restricted areas during the match. The club was also cited for not controlling their supporters, a lapse that led to the harassment of Barau FC players and match officials.
The NPFL further confirmed that harmful objects were thrown onto the pitch by Katsina United supporters, resulting in injuries to Barau FC players. The conduct of the fans was deemed capable of bringing the league into disrepute.
As part of the sanctions, Katsina United will play all their remaining home fixtures in Jos and behind closed doors.
Financial penalties were also imposed. The club will pay three separate fines of N1 million each for throwing objects toward the pitch, failing to control their supporters and actions that damaged the league's reputation. An additional N2 million fine was issued for failing to provide adequate security.
Katsina United must also pay N2 million as compensation for treatment of injured Barau FC players and damage to the away team’s buses, as well as another N2 million for holding match officials and the visiting team hostage after the match.
