The Governor of Nasarawa State, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, will serve as the special guest of honour at the opening match of the Nigeria National League 2025–2026 season in Lafia.
The curtain-raiser, set for Saturday 8 November 2025 at the Lafia City Stadium, will feature Lafia-based FC Basira against Mighty Jets of Jos in a Conference C fixture.
The NNL leadership has expressed appreciation to Governor Sule for accepting to host and grace the season opener. He will conduct the ceremonial kick-off alongside the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, NFF General Secretary Dr Sanusi Mohammed, NNL Chairman George Aluo, and other board members.
Governor Sule will arrive with a strong delegation that includes the Deputy Governor, Dr Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon Kwanta Yakubu Bohar, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr Isaac Danladi, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Dr Ibrahim Adamu Alhassan, and the Chairman of the Nasarawa State Football Association, Mr Salisu Usman Galadima.
The 8,000-capacity Lafia City Stadium is expected to be filled with excitement as fans turn out to support their teams. The match promises a lively and competitive display of football.
The winner of the encounter will receive the Locker Room Bonus courtesy of NNL partners BetPawa. Last month, BetPawa pledged a winning bonus of N56,000 each for 20 players and three coaches of NNL teams as part of a N494 million sponsorship agreement with the league.
