The Nigeria Premier Football League has dismissed widespread reports claiming that Barau FC midfielder Abraham Nana was stabbed during the disrupted Matchday 12 clash against Katsina United at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the league described the circulating allegations that the Ghanaian player had his throat slit during the second half as entirely false.
According to the NPFL, the midfielder was injured after being hit by an object thrown from the stands. Medical personnel treated him on the pitch, prompting a brief halt to proceedings before the match continued.
The league explained that its Situation Room remained in close communication with the referee and match commissioner throughout the incident to confirm the true sequence of events.
Following a review of official match reports, the NPFL confirmed that Katsina United have been sanctioned for failures in crowd control and security management.
The statement added that the league remains committed to enforcing its regulations and ensuring that all matches are played in a safe environment for players, officials and spectators.
