World Cup Playoffs: Ndidi Boosts Super Eagles After CAF Clears Him

Wilfred Ndidi has been cleared to play for the Super Eagles in Sunday’s decisive World Cup playoff against DR Congo after the Confederation of African Football confirmed his eligibility.

CAF’s clarification follows concerns that the midfielder’s yellow card from the group stage of the World Cup qualifiers might rule him out of the clash. The body explained that cautions picked up during the qualifiers do not carry over into the playoffs. Only players with existing suspensions are ineligible.

The decision provides a timely boost for Nigeria as Ndidi is expected to anchor the midfield in a match that will determine who secures a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Nigeria face DR Congo on Sunday in Rabat, Morocco, where only the winner will earn a ticket to the global tournament.
