Lobi Stars head coach Abubakar Bala says his side will continue to work relentlessly after their spirited 2-1 comeback victory over Mighty Jets in the Nigeria National League on Sunday.
The Makurdi club had to fight from behind at the Lafia City Stadium after conceding a 12th minute penalty, converted by Okon Otop Eta. Lobi Stars responded through Suur Kumaga, who headed home Valentine Egiga’s cross on 30 minutes to restore parity.
The game came alive in the second half when Bala introduced Afeez Yusuf and teenage talent Benjamin Agugu. The move paid off in the 67th minute as Agugu, making his senior debut on his birthday, smashed in the winner after a neat exchange with Kumaga.
Mighty Jets pushed in search of an equaliser but Lobi Stars held firm, with further substitutions helping maintain their intensity until the final whistle. The win lifts Lobi Stars to six points from three matches.
Speaking after the match, Bala praised his players for showing character after a difficult start.
He said: “The boys did a good job which I am happy about. The early goal we conceded almost destabilised us but we kept to our philosophy and overpowered them. The league is a marathon race. It is not over and we shall continue to work hard to achieve our target.”
Lobi Stars are joint-second in Conference C, level on six points with ABS and FC Basira but placed fourth due to goal difference. Doma United lead the group with nine points after winning all three matches.
