Kwara United were beaten 3-1 by Enyimba International in their Nigeria Premier Football League Matchday 17 fixture on Sunday at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.
The hosts struck first in the 23rd minute when Samuel Agu unleashed a long-range effort that caught goalkeeper Nurudeen unprepared. Kwara United responded with purpose and drew level eight minutes later as Toheeb Gidado finished calmly to make it 1-1 before the interval.
Enyimba returned for the second half with greater intensity and regained the lead in the 59th minute. Chidera Michael took advantage of a defensive error to restore the hosts’ advantage, before adding a second goal three minutes later to put the game beyond reach.
Kwara United attempted to rally, with Akanni Akeem and Junior Aimufua testing the Enyimba defence, but their efforts were repelled as the People’s Elephant held firm.
After the match, Kwara United head coach Ashifat Suleiman pointed to enforced changes following late injuries as a major factor in the defeat.
“We had to change our game pattern a few minutes into the match because two of our regular players, including midfielder Philip Ozor and one defender, sustained injuries during the warm-up,” Suleiman said. “Football is like that sometimes. We will go back, prepare, and regroup for our next game.”
