Rangers International delivered a commanding performance on Sunday as defender Chiedozie Iwundu scored twice in a 4-1 victory over Bayelsa United in an NPFL week 16 fixture at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.
Iwundu opened the scoring in the 10th minute before doubling the advantage nine minutes later. Bayelsa United pulled one back in the 24th minute but the response from the hosts was immediate and emphatic.
Veteran midfielder Godwin Agu restored Rangers' two-goal cushion in the 33rd minute with a well-taken free kick. Moments before the interval, young forward Chimaobi Igwilo capped a brilliant solo run with Rangers' fourth goal, sealing a dominant first half.
Bayelsa United returned more organised after the break and tightened their defensive structure, but neither side could alter the scoreline despite several attempts.
Reacting after the match, Bayelsa United coach Neremu Okara admitted it was a disappointing outing.
“I am not happy because we conceded many cheap goals. It is a bad day for the team,” he said.
Rangers coach Fidelis Ilechukwu praised his players and emphasised the need for continued improvement.
“We are happy and everybody is happy. We have to work harder to ensure that every department is fortified,” he stated.
The result lifts Rangers to fourth place on the table with 25 points from 16 matches, while Bayelsa United drop to 14th with 20 points.
