Telecom SC produced one of the biggest shocks of the Egypt Super Cup Round of 32 with a remarkable 2–1 comeback victory over African giants Al Ahly, inspired by a tactically astute performance from head coach Aliyu Zubair.
Al Ahly appeared on course to assert their dominance when Omar Kamal opened the scoring in the 41st minute, leaving Telecom SC with a mountain to climb against the record champions.
However, the Nigerian tactician refused to be overawed. Zubair reorganised his side after the interval, shoring up the defence and introducing a more direct and purposeful attacking approach that gradually unsettled Al Ahly.
The changes paid off late in normal time when Mostafa Fawzy struck in the 81st minute to restore parity and force the contest into extra time.
With tension rising, Telecom SC remained disciplined and compact, executing Zubair’s game plan with precision. Their ability to defend resolutely and break intelligently proved decisive.
Fawzy capped a memorable night by completing his brace in the 110th minute, sealing a historic victory and sending Telecom SC into the Round of 16.
The result sent shockwaves through Egyptian football and further underlined Zubair’s growing reputation for tactical intelligence, resilience and big-match management.
Zubair joined the Egyptian second division side in October and has quickly made an impact, guiding Telecom SC to one of the most notable victories in the club’s history. Buoyed by the upset, Telecom SC now march confidently into the next stage of the competition.
