South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has expressed disappointment following Bafana Bafana’s exit from the Africa Cup of Nations after a 2-1 defeat to Cameroon in Sunday’s Round of 16 clash.
The Indomitable Lions sealed the victory through goals from Junior Tchamadeu and Christian Kofane, ending South Africa’s campaign at the knockout stage. Evidence Makgopa scored the lone goal for Bafana Bafana in the tightly contested encounter.
Speaking during his post-match interview, Broos insisted his side were unfortunate to leave the tournament at this stage, arguing that the performance did not reflect the outcome.
“That is the way life is. Our team didn’t deserve to lose against Cameroon. This isn’t the result we came for, but we have to acknowledge that it is what it is,” Broos said.
Despite the early exit, the Belgian tactician revealed that attention has already shifted to future objectives, with qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup now the priority.
“We will now focus on preparing for our future objectives, with the 2026 World Cup in our sights,” he added.
Cameroon progress to the quarter-finals, while South Africa return home to reassess and rebuild ahead of the next phase of their international journey.
