Niger Tornadoes head coach Majin Mohammed has praised his players’ response after they returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Enyimba FC in the Nigeria Premier Football League Matchday 22 fixture in Minna on Sunday.
The Ikon Allah Boys secured the win at the Bako Kontagora Stadium thanks to a dominant second-half display that followed tactical adjustments from the technical crew.
After a goalless first half in which Enyimba defended resolutely, Tornadoes found momentum following the introduction of Ahmadu Liman and Rickson Mendos. The pair helped improve ball circulation and increased the tempo as the hosts pushed for a breakthrough.
Abdulrasheed Shehu Dabai opened the scoring in the 66th minute, calmly guiding Liman’s defence-splitting pass into the net. Rickson Mendos sealed the victory late on, finishing confidently in the 88th minute after being released by Dabai. The goal was Mendos’ fourth of the season, all scored from the bench.
Speaking after the match, Majin Mohammed admitted his side struggled with nerves in the opening period but was pleased with their reaction after the break.
“The players were anxious in the first half because they wanted to score and put behind them the two winless results,” Majin told NTFC media. “We made some adjustments in the second half and it paid off. So kudos to everyone.”
The win ended Tornadoes’ winless run and compounded Enyimba’s struggles on the road this season.
Attention now turns to their next league fixture against Bayelsa United, with Majin highlighting the need for improvement away from home.
“The next game is against Bayelsa United. We will start preparing in earnest to see what we can get, because we need to improve our away performance,” he added.
