Akwa United Extend NNL Conference B Lead with Narrow Win

Akwa United strengthened their promotion hopes with a 1–0 victory over Sporting Lagos in their NNL Matchday 14 clash at the Uyo Township Stadium on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

The visitors started brightly, pressing high and controlling possession in the opening stages. Akwa United, under Coach Paul Offor, gradually settled and began to dominate as the game progressed.

The breakthrough came in the 34th minute when Charles Etim converted a penalty after a defender handled a cross inside the box, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way. Akwa United thought they had doubled the lead shortly after, but Ndifreke Etim’s goal was ruled out for an infringement in the build-up.

In the second half, Akwa United continued to press. Aniebiet Sunday and Ndifreke Etim tested the goalkeeper with dangerous efforts, while fresh substitutes Michael Okenwa, Oladimeji Dada, and Yannick Menegbe helped maintain the team’s momentum. Despite several further chances, the scoreline remained 1–0.

The win moves Akwa United to 28 points from 14 matches, extending their lead at the top of Conference B to four points and reinforcing their push for promotion to the NPFL. The Uyo Township Stadium has once again proved a fortress, with Akwa United winning seven of eight home games this season and conceding just once.
