Monday Eguavoen has expressed strong confidence that Abia Comets will avoid relegation from the Nigeria National League.
The former Super Eagles defender, who is the current Technical Director of the club, told Completesports.com that the team will fight to remain in the second tier despite their current position.
Speaking from his residence in Benin on Tuesday, Eguavoen said the club’s situation is far from hopeless.
“I’m in Benin now for a personal issue, but I will be going to Aba afterwards. By the grace of God, Abia Comets will not be relegated,” he said.
Abia Comets are currently in the relegation zone in Conference A, with 12 points from 12 matches. The team has four fixtures remaining to secure survival.
Eguavoen stressed that the points gap between Comets and teams above them is still within reach.
“We will fight in the remaining games. It is not yet over because the points difference with the teams above us is not much. We will fight till the end and hopefully we will stay afloat,” he added.
At the top of the standings, Inter Lagos and Beyond Limits are level on 24 points, while Heartland sit third with 20 points as the season approaches its final stretch.
