Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation, Augustine Eguavoen, has expressed confidence that grassroots coaches participating in the ongoing NFF D Licence Coaching Course in Yenagoa will develop into top managers in the future.
Eguavoen spoke with journalists after the second day theoretical session of the course taking place in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.
The coaching programme, organised by the Prosperity Cup in collaboration with the Bayelsa State Football Association, is scheduled to run from March 11 to March 15, 2026 at the Golden Tulip Apartments and Resort, Onopa.
According to Eguavoen, the course will play an important role in strengthening grassroots coaching in the state.
He said the NFF D Licence programme is designed to improve the technical and tactical knowledge of the participants, adding that he expects many of them to become successful managers in the future.
Eguavoen also urged other states across the country to emulate Bayelsa State by investing in the development of grassroots coaches.
The former Super Eagles captain praised Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, for his continued support for the Prosperity Cup, noting that the tournament has become one of the most important grassroots competitions in Nigeria.
He added that the governor’s commitment to grassroots football has helped expose several talented players through the competition.
Eguavoen revealed that some players discovered during the previous edition of the Prosperity Cup were invited for trials with the national Under 20 team.
The coaching course will continue on Friday with a theoretical session scheduled for 9:00am, while the practical training will take place at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.
