Head coach Majin Mohammed has reiterated that Niger Tornadoes remain focused on securing their Nigeria Premier Football League status after a late 2–0 victory over Wikki Tourists in Minna.
The Matchday 32 encounter at the Bako Kontagora Stadium appeared set for a stalemate before a strong second-half finish saw the hosts take control in the closing stages.
After a goalless first half, Niger Tornadoes struggled to break down a disciplined Wikki Tourists defence despite dominating possession. The visitors remained compact and limited clear chances, forcing the home side into a rethink at the interval.
The turning point came following a series of tactical substitutions by the Tornadoes’ technical crew. The introduction of Rickson Mendos and Nelson Michael added pace and urgency, while Ahmadu Liman grew into the game with increased influence in midfield.
Sustained pressure eventually paid off in the 80th minute when Mendos was fouled inside the box. Abdulrasheed Shehu Dabai converted from the penalty spot to give Niger Tornadoes the lead.
The hosts sealed the win in added time as Terdoo Shimagande rose highest to head home from Liman’s delivery, confirming all three points.
Speaking after the match, Majin praised his players for their determination and response after a difficult first half.
“We thank God for the win. It was a great effort and performance from the players. They showed real desire. We struggled to find our rhythm in the first half, which led to the changes we made, and thankfully they worked,” he said.
Despite the result, the coach maintained that the club’s priority remains survival as the season enters its final phase.
“Our target remains to secure our NPFL status and finish comfortably,” Majin added.
The victory lifts Niger Tornadoes to 11th on the NPFL table, offering a timely boost as they prepare for their next fixture away to Katsina United.
