Shooting Stars Sports Club secured a dramatic 2–1 victory over Rivers United after Adegoke Qamar struck deep into stoppage time in a rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League Matchday 24 clash at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.
The encounter produced an intense contest with both sides creating chances in an end to end game.
Shooting Stars opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when Sodiq Ibrahim powered home a header after connecting with a delivery from Ayobami Junior. The goal gave the hosts the advantage heading into the break.
Rivers United responded strongly after the restart and levelled the score through Wasiu Falolu, who finished a move assisted by Ochobi Elias.
Both sides pushed for a winner in the closing stages, but goalkeepers Osagie Onisodumeya of Rivers United and Shooting Stars’ Godgift Elkanah produced several important saves to keep their teams in the contest.
The decisive moment arrived in the 92nd minute when substitute Qamar reacted quickest inside the penalty area to score and secure all three points for the Ibadan side.
The goal continues Qamar’s impressive form, taking his tally to seven goals this season, with three coming in his last four appearances.
For Rivers United, the defeat represents only their fourth loss of the campaign.
Rivers United will return to action on Monday when they travel to Lagos to face Ikorodu City at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan.
Shooting Stars will meanwhile shift focus to their next league fixture against Wikki Tourists as they look to build momentum from the victory.
