Head coach of Nasarawa United, Mangut Mbwas, has expressed deep disappointment following his side’s stoppage-time defeat to Kwara United in a North Central derby clash of the Nigeria Premier Football League on Saturday.
The Solid Miners were undone in the 90+5 minute when Abdulsalam Abdulsalam converted from the penalty spot to hand Kwara United a narrow win at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.
Reacting after the match, Mbwas said the result was painful, insisting his side had done enough to earn at least a point from the encounter.
“We are all pained by this result today,” Mbwas said.
“We had given this game our all from the blast of the whistle, only to be let down in the dying minutes. A draw was the worst we had envisaged, but sometimes you get hit by the cruel side of the game.”
Despite the setback, the Nasarawa United boss maintained that his team remains focused on their season objectives and will continue to push until the end of the campaign.
“Nevertheless, we have picked up our pieces, we remain resolute in our focus for our targets, and we will continue to fight till the last day of the league,” he added.
Mbwas also shifted attention to their next fixture, urging his players to respond positively when they face Kun Khalifat.
“Our next game is against Kun Khalifat. We have to console ourselves and our very loyal supporters and fans by winning that game.”
Nasarawa United remains third on the league table with 50 points despite the defeat, while Kwara United occupies 18th position with 36 points.
