Head coach of Akwa United, Paul Offor, has praised the leadership of the Nigeria National League for introducing monthly awards designed to reward outstanding performances across the division.
Offor, who was named Best Coach for December, January and February, described the initiative as a significant boost for motivation among players, coaches and officials. He said the recognition has strengthened his drive to achieve more with his team.
The Akwa United boss noted that the awards have injected fresh competitiveness into the league while promoting professionalism at all levels.
He also highlighted the financial incentives attached to match performances, describing them as a notable development in Nigerian football.
Offor said it is a new experience for players to receive monetary rewards immediately after matches in the dressing room, adding that such initiatives deserve commendation and sustained support.
He further praised the league body for reforms that have improved the overall standard and organisation of the competition.
In the individual categories, Ajibola Joel of Stormers Sports Club won the highest goal scorer award for December, while Tony Ayanga of Rovers FC and Innocent Idu of City FC claimed the honours for January and February respectively.
Emmanuel Daniel of Ranchers Bees was named Best Goalkeeper for December, Aloysius Thankgod of Akwa United won in January, and Alo Chukwu Pascal of Abakaliki FC secured the February award.
Offor’s clean sweep in the coaching category underlined his consistency over the three-month period.
Kada Warriors, Rovers FC and Lobi Stars were recognised as Best Behaved Teams for December, January and February respectively.
In the Most Valuable Player category, Yaro Zakari of Yobe Desert Warriors, Victor Samuel of Sporting Lagos and Obisesan Sodiq of Osun United emerged winners for December, January and February.
The Goal of the Month awards went to Daniel Gothom of Akwa United for December, Babarinde Taofeek of Gateway FC for January, and Jafar Ojo of Smart City FC for February.
