The race for this year’s President Federation Cup women’s title has reached the semi-final stage after FC Robo Queens, Heartland Queens, Sunshine Queens and Nasarawa Amazons secured their places in the last four.
FC Robo Queens recorded one of the biggest results of the quarter-finals, defeating seven-time champions Rivers Angels 1-0. The Lagos-based side showed strong organisation and determination to overcome one of the competition’s most successful teams.
Heartland Queens booked their semi-final ticket after surviving a thrilling encounter against Ibom Angels. The match ended 2-2 after regulation time before the Owerri side won 4-2 on penalties to progress.
Sunshine Queens also advanced with a narrow 1-0 victory over Confluence Queens. The Akure-based team held on to their slim advantage to keep their hopes of winning the trophy alive.
Nasarawa Amazons secured the final semi-final spot after edging Edo Queens in a penalty shootout. The game ended goalless after 90 minutes, with Nasarawa winning 5-3 from the spot.
The semi-final line-up will now see FC Robo Queens, Heartland Queens, Sunshine Queens and Nasarawa Amazons compete for a place in the final.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that the men’s and women’s President Federation Cup finals will be held on July 11 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.
In the men’s competition, Ikorodu City and El-Kanemi Warriors have already secured their places in the final after defeating Nasarawa United and Wikki Tourists respectively.
The women’s semi-final clashes will determine the two teams that will battle for glory in the Asaba final.
