Nigeria's U20 national team, the Flying Eagles, have advanced to the semifinals of the 2024 WAFU B U20 Championship after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Cote D'Ivoire in their final group match. This win secures their place in the knockout stage of the competition.
The Flying Eagles had earlier lost 0-1 to Burkina Faso in their Group B opener, while Cote D'Ivoire had beaten Burkina Faso by the same scoreline. Despite both teams finishing with similar results, Nigeria topped the group due to their superior goal advantage. Cote D'Ivoire’s red card in their match against Burkina Faso also impacted their standing.
As the Group B winners, Nigeria will now face Niger Republic in the semifinals, with hopes of continuing their impressive campaign. A victory in the next round will edge them closer to another WAFU B title.
