National Assembly Commends President Tinubu on Replacement of Ministry of Sports with Sports Commission

The Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Honourable Kabiru Amadu, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his decision to replace the Ministry of Sports Development with the National Sports Commission (NSC). The President made the announcement on Wednesday, confirming that the roles previously handled by the ministry will now be taken over by the newly reinstated commission.

Honourable Kabiru Amadu, who represents the Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency of Zamfara State in the House of Representatives, described the move as a welcome development. He emphasized that the National Assembly fully supports the President's decision, calling it a bold and progressive step for Nigeria’s sports sector.

"I think Mr. President should be highly commended for this bold decision to return the Sports sector to a Commission," Honourable Amadu stated. He added that the House Committee on Sports has long advocated for a Sports Commission, believing it to be the best framework for the sector's growth and efficiency.

According to Amadu, President Tinubu's decision aligns with the views of many sports stakeholders, and he expressed hope that this marks the beginning of a new era for sports development in Nigeria. The shift is expected to bring positive changes by streamlining sports management under the NSC.

Honourable Amadu also highlighted the advantages of having a Sports Commission, stressing that it will allow professionals with the right expertise to manage the sports sector more effectively. This restructuring, he believes, will enhance the performance and development of sports in the country.
