Nigeria’s U15 boys, known as the Future Eagles, arrived in Casablanca, Morocco, on Wednesday, December 11, ahead of two international friendly matches against their Moroccan counterparts. This marks the team’s first international outing under the FIFA Talent Development Scheme (TDS) since its inception in Nigeria.
The delegation, comprising 22 players and six officials led by head coach Patrick Bassey, arrived at approximately 11 AM. Among the players is Dominion Osaghae Ighodaro, captain of Bendel Insurance’s U15 team. The friendlies are set to take place at the Complexe Mohammed VI de Football on December 12 and 15, both kicking off at 5 PM local time.
Nasiru Jibril, head of the delegation, emphasized the importance of the matches in equipping the young players for future competitions. “Playing Morocco is a deliberate plan and a pragmatic way of equipping the young, talented players discovered in the country through the FIFA Talent Development Scheme,” he said.
Jibril highlighted that exposure to international facilities and games will enhance preparations for the annual U17 AFCON and FIFA U17 World Cup tournaments. “The FIFA Talent Development Scheme has come at the right time and is helpful to Nigeria football. Morocco is an organized environment with similar development programs, making it ideal for such international engagements,” he added.
The squad features players from various clubs across Nigeria, including three goalkeepers, seven defenders, and a midfield brimming with talent. The team is optimistic that this experience will bolster their development and readiness for future international competitions.
