Two National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, Mr. Daniel Umoh and Miss EnyeneAbasi Emmanuel, have donated an electronic signpost to their Place of Primary Assignment (PPA), Akwa United Football Club. The donation aims to enhance visibility and accessibility to the club’s facilities.
The electronic signpost was officially presented to the club’s chairman, Elder Paul Bassey, on Friday at the Akwa United clubhouse in Uyo. The initiative was described as a significant contribution towards improving the club’s infrastructure.
Mr. Daniel Umoh, a graduate of Psychology from the University of Uyo, was initially posted to Rivers State for his national service before being redeployed to Akwa Ibom. Upon arrival, he was assigned to the Ministry of Sports, which later placed him at Akwa United, where he worked closely with the club’s Technical Director and Psychologist, Coach Ime Uko.
Similarly, Miss EnyeneAbasi Emmanuel, a graduate of Physics from the University of Uyo, was posted to the Ministry of Sports before being assigned to Akwa United. She is currently attached to the office of the club’s secretary and will complete her service year in May.
Speaking on behalf of both donors, Mr. Daniel stated that the project was their way of giving back to the club. He expressed excitement about the opportunity to witness the internal operations of a professional football club.
"I used to believe that football was only about playing on the field, but my service year at Akwa United helped me understand the crucial role of football administration," he said.
He explained that the inspiration for the donation came after learning that the club’s previous signpost, donated by another corps member in 2019, had been destroyed during road construction. To address this, they decided to provide a more durable electronic signpost that could be fixed to the outer wall of the clubhouse.
The corps members expressed gratitude to Akwa United’s management for their warm hospitality and the opportunity to serve within the club. They wished the team continued success in all its endeavors.
In response, Elder Paul Bassey, the chairman of Akwa United, commended the corps members for their initiative and generosity. He assured them that their contribution would be remembered and appreciated by everyone at the club.
The donation highlights the positive impact of youth service programs and serves as an example of how corps members can leave lasting legacies in their places of assignment.
