Anambra FA Chairman Iloenyosi Chikelue Discusses Football’s Role in Insecurity and Nigerian Football’s Growth

Anambra State Football Association Chairman, Iloenyosi Chikelue, recently shared insights on the critical role football associations play in tackling stadium insecurity, alongside his views on Nigerian football’s progress and emerging talents.

Chikelue, a respected former player and prominent football administrator, highlighted the ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of players, officials, and fans at Nigerian football matches. He emphasized the importance of a secure environment for the development of the game, stating that such measures are integral to the overall growth of Nigerian football.

In his comments on Enyimba FC, Chikelue praised the club’s chairman, Ifeanyi Ekwueme, for his dedication to reviving the team. “You can't give what you don't have,” Chikelue stated, acknowledging Ekwueme’s leadership. Chikelue, who is part of a group of former players turned administrators, including Patrick Pascal, Kanu Nwankwo, and John Obuh, believes that strong leadership is key to rebuilding Enyimba into a title-winning force. He defended Ekwueme amidst calls for his removal, asserting that such opinions do not serve the club’s best interests and that a rebuilding process is essential for long-term success. “Enyimba is a great club, and while immediate results may not come, they will bounce back stronger,” Chikelue remarked.

Turning his focus to the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Chikelue lauded Ibrahim Gusau for his efforts to uplift football in the country, stating that Gusau is doing his best to advance the game. He also praised the leadership of Abia Warriors, noting their impressive season despite challenges, and emphasized the importance of healthy rivalries in Nigerian football. “I love healthy rivalries,” Chikelue said, drawing attention to the spirited competition between Enyimba and Abia Warriors this season.

Looking ahead to the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Egypt, Chikelue expressed confidence in the Nigeria Flying Eagles, predicting that they would clinch the title. His belief in the team's potential underscores his optimism for Nigerian youth football.

As for the highly anticipated Oriental derby between Enyimba FC and Rangers International, Chikelue tipped Rangers to emerge victorious, owing to his special connection to the club. A former Rangers player, Chikelue’s allegiance to his former side was clear, although he acknowledged the high level of competition in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.

Finally, Chikelue offered his praise to Remo Stars FC for their remarkable performance during the recent season. He commended the players and management for their fighting spirit and highlighted the role of young players in securing the league title. His recognition of emerging talents further underscores his commitment to nurturing the next generation of Nigerian footballers.

In summary, Iloenyosi Chikelue’s comments reflect his dedication to advancing Nigerian football, ensuring safety in stadiums, and supporting the next wave of talent. His leadership and passion for the game continue to inspire progress within the sport, promising a bright future for Nigerian football.
