Abakaliki FC Edge Ikorodu City on Penalties to Reach First-Ever Federation Cup Final

Abakaliki FC have booked their place in the final of the 2025 President Federation Cup after defeating Ikorodu City FC 5-4 on penalties in a tense semi-final clash on Wednesday at the Bwari Stadium, Abuja.

The game ended 0-0 after regulation time, with both teams unable to find the breakthrough in a cagey and physical contest. In the ensuing shootout, Ikorodu City missed two of their six penalties, while Abakaliki FC held their nerve to convert four of their five kicks, sealing a historic win.

The result ends Ikorodu City’s hopes of qualifying for continental football this season. After finishing fourth in the Nigeria Premier Football League—just outside the CAF Confederation Cup slots—the Federation Cup was their final chance at a ticket to the continent.

For Abakaliki FC, their remarkable run continues. The ‘Rice City Boys’, who shocked former champions Enyimba FC in the quarterfinals, will now play Kwara United in the final.
