Kwara United have booked a place in the final of the President Federation Cup for the first time in nearly five decades, edging Rangers International 1-0 on Wednesday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.
Wasiu Alalade scored the only goal of the match in the 48th minute, capitalizing on a strong start to the second half to hand the Harmony Boys a historic victory.
Despite missing clear chances in the first half—most notably through Yahaya Ibrahim and Alalade himself—Kwara United remained composed and resilient. Rangers pushed hard for an equalizer late in the game, but goalkeeper Suraj Ayeleso delivered a string of vital saves to preserve the lead.
Head coach Tunde Sanni, who masterminded the long-awaited final berth, expressed pride in the team’s performance and pledged not to take their final opponents, Abakaliki FC, lightly.
“We’ve worked so hard to get here, and we will give it our all in the final,” Sanni said.
Kwara United will now aim to crown their remarkable cup run with silverware as they prepare to face Abakaliki FC in the final.
