Barau FC Defeat Jigawa Golden Stars in Northwest Derby to Boost NPFL Promotion Hopes

Barau Football Club secured a crucial 2-1 away victory over Jigawa Golden Stars in a tense Northwest derby on Nigerian National League (NNL) Matchday 11, held at the Kazaure Stadium on Saturday.

The win moves the Kano-based side to second place in the NNL 2024/2025 Northern Conference C with 15 points from 10 matches, pending other Matchday 11 results.

Barau FC opened scoring early in the 7th minute when Sai’du Salisu converted a header from Sunday Dapma’s corner—his second goal of the season. Although Jigawa equalised in the 35th minute, Barau responded immediately, restoring their lead just one minute later through Shammasu Muhammad, who nodded in from a Najib Yusuf assist. It was also Shammasu’s second goal of the campaign.

Jigawa Golden Stars ended the match with 10 men, as Barau held on to claim all three points in front of a lively home crowd.

Barau FC’s technical adviser, Rabi’u Tata, commended his players for the performance. “I thank the players for their hard work. This isn’t our first away victory—we also picked up points against Zamfara United. Today, we earned another important win in Kazaure,” he said. “We need to keep working hard because our goal is to finish among the top teams.”

The Maliya Boys will now shift focus to their final two group fixtures: a home clash against Wikki Tourists and an away game against Mighty Jets at the New Jos Stadium. The outcome of these games will be key to their push for promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
