The Delta State Government has dissolved the entire structure of Delta Queens Football Club, including its management board, technical crew, and players, in response to the team’s poor showing in the ongoing Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) season.
The decision was announced on Wednesday via a statement from the Delta State Sports Commission, signed by its Director of Public Relations, Franka Okonma. The Commission said the move is part of a restructuring effort aimed at restoring the club’s competitiveness and professionalism.
“This dissolution is necessary to reposition the club for greater efficiency, professionalism, and competitiveness. A new management board, technical crew, and a fresh set of players will be constituted shortly,” the statement read.
Delta Queens, based in Asaba and playing home matches at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, is one of the most decorated women’s football clubs in Nigeria. Despite its rich history and track record of producing national team players, the club has struggled this season under the leadership of Coach Peter Dedevbo.
The government’s intervention marks a major turning point for the club, which has seen increasing criticism over its declining form.
The Sports Commission confirmed that plans are underway to reconstitute the team with a renewed vision, pledging continued support for female football development in the state.
Further announcements regarding new appointments and player recruitment are expected in the coming weeks.
