In the much-anticipated male category final, Ogbe Secondary School delivered a masterclass performance to defeat St. Peter’s Grammar School, Agenebode 3–0. From the first whistle, Ogbe showed confidence, composure, and tactical discipline.
Osifo Believe opened the scoring with a clinical finish, sparking wild celebrations among the Ogbe faithful. Idor Samuel doubled the lead with a thunderous strike from outside the box that left the goalkeeper with no chance. Izregba Ogijo sealed the win with a lightning-fast counter-attack finish, confirming Ogbe’s dominance and status as champions of the Edo Governor’s Cup 2025.
The victory was met with emotional celebrations as the Ogbe squad hoisted the trophy, singing their school anthem in triumph.
Idia College Clinch Female Title with Style
Earlier in the day, Idia College displayed exceptional teamwork and finesse to defeat St. Angela Grammar School 2–0 in the female final.
Umoru Fatima broke the deadlock with a calm and composed finish in the first half.
Enoduwenben Favour added the second in the second half with a brilliant goal that ensured Idia College etched their name into the history books.
Their win was celebrated with cheers, chants, and a wave of school spirit that echoed across the stadium.
Governor Okpebolo Rewards Champions with Brand New Buses
In a remarkable show of support for grassroots sports, Governor Monday Okpebolo presented both winning schools with brand new Toyota Hiace buses to boost their transportation systems and encourage further participation in school sports.
The Governor, joined by Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa, Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly Blessing Agbebaku, Commissioner for Education Dr. Paddy Iyamu, and **Chairman of the Sports Commission Amadin Enabulele, commended all participating schools for their discipline, talent, and sportsmanship.
“The Governor’s Cup will remain a cornerstone of our commitment to grassroots development and youth empowerment,” said Senator Okpebolo.
