Ogun State stormed to a convincing 4-1 victory over Kwara State in the final of the men’s football event at the Gateway Games 2024, held at the packed MKO Abiola Sports Complex.
The home fans turned out in large numbers, creating a vibrant atmosphere as they rallied behind their team with chants and cheers from kickoff to the final whistle.
Ogun State took control early and maintained dominance throughout, creating numerous chances and putting four past the Kwara defence. Although the scoreline could have been even more emphatic, the team's performance left no doubt about who deserved the gold.
With quick passes, sharp movements, and relentless attacking play, Ogun’s team was simply a class above. Their victory capped off a strong campaign and delivered the much-anticipated gold medal to the host state.
Kwara State had their moments but couldn’t match Ogun's intensity, settling for silver after a tough final.
The triumph adds another feather to Ogun State’s cap as hosts and showcases the success of the football event at this year’s Games.
