Edo Queens reignited their title hopes in the NWFL25 Premiership Super 6 with a gritty 1-0 victory over defending champions Bayelsa Queens on matchday four in Ikenne.
Goodness Osigwe’s decisive strike in the 45th minute proved the difference, ending Bayelsa Queens’ remarkable 17-game unbeaten run in the league and throwing the title race wide open.
It was a tightly contested encounter with both sides creating chances. Bayelsa Queens edged the shots on target (7-6), but Edo Queens showed greater efficiency and resilience, with their goalkeeper making seven saves to preserve the lead.
The holders had opened their campaign with a 1-0 defeat to Remo Stars Ladies, drew 1-1 with Rivers Angels, and bounced back with a 2-0 win over Naija Ratels on Tuesday.
Bayelsa Queens, who came into the clash unbeaten, had defeated Rivers Angels (1-0), drawn with Nasarawa Amazons (1-1), and beaten Remo Stars Ladies (2-0), but were undone by a resolute Edo Queens side determined to stay in the title hunt.
