Sokoto United boosted their Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 hopes with a narrow 1-0 win over Gombe United on Matchday 12 at the Giginya Memorial Stadium.
God’stime Oshoke scored the decisive goal in the 6th minute, firing home from outside the box after a corner was partially cleared. The early strike proved enough as Sokoto’s defense held firm against Gombe’s sustained pressure.
Despite several efforts from both sides, the scoreline remained unchanged, with Sokoto’s backline and goalkeeper standing resolute while Gombe’s shot-stopper denied further damage.
Speaking after the match, Sokoto United head coach Peter Ajeni praised his side’s determination.
“This was a must-win for us to stay out of the relegation zone,” he said. “Now we’re back in third place and keeping our Super 8 hopes alive.”
Sokoto United’s fate will be decided on the final day when they face Jigawa FC, with an eye also on Barau FC’s result against Jigawa Golden Stars on May 18.
The battle for a Super 8 spot is on—and Sokoto United remains in the hunt.
