Unity Cup: Chelle Explains Osimhen, Lookman Omission from Super Eagles Squad

Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has explained the absence of star forwards Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman from Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming Unity Cup.

Chelle revealed that the decision was deliberate, as the coaching crew aims to give room for emerging talents to prove themselves on the international stage.

Nigeria will face long-time rivals Ghana on May 28 in the opening game of the Unity Cup.

The squad includes 10 players from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), while veteran striker Ahmed Musa has been recalled in a bid to reassert his place in the national team.

“We have a lot of talented players in Nigeria, and it’s important to give them the chance to prove themselves,” Chelle told NFF Media.

He emphasized that the tournament will help shape the long-term identity of the team.

“The Unity Cup provides a good platform to test new players and tactics as we prepare for upcoming competitions, especially in September,” he added.
