Former Super Eagles and NPFL icon, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, has continued his mission to promote goalkeeping excellence in Nigerian football through the annual Ezenwa Goalkeeper Awards, honouring top performers from the 2024/2025 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.
Jimoh Abdul of Rangers International and Adebiyi Obassa of Remo Stars were each awarded ₦100,000 for recording the highest number of clean sheets—15 apiece—during the campaign.
In a separate initiative powered by members of the NPFL WhatsApp group made up of coaches, goalkeepers, and administrators, Coach Dahiru Ilu and Coach Anthony Donwa were named Best Goalkeeper Trainers, receiving ₦50,000 each.
Bayelsa United’s Ezekiel Clinton also received ₦50,000 after being named Best Rookie Goalkeeper for the season.
Ezenwa, alongside co-sponsors John Dosu and Femi Thomas, launched the award program to support and motivate goalkeepers at all levels in the domestic league.
“These recognitions are about raising the standard and morale of our local goalkeepers. We’re building something bigger than awards—we’re building belief,” Ezenwa said.
The initiative, now in its second year, has expanded with more categories and increased support, reflecting a growing commitment to goalkeeper development in Nigerian football.
