Doma United Coach Onigbinde Issues Apology Over Post-Match Remarks

Doma United head coach Akinade Onigbinde has issued a formal apology following a controversial statement attributed to him after his side’s 2-1 loss to Yobe Desert Stars in the ongoing NNL Super 8 promotion playoffs in Asaba.

In a press release, Onigbinde clarified that the earlier remarks made about the match outcome were misquoted. He expressed regret over his comments during the post-match interview and extended his appreciation to the competition organisers.

"I sincerely apologise for my actions in the aftermath of the press post-match interview. I take full responsibility for the result and remain committed to the values of fairness and sportsmanship," Onigbinde stated.

Despite the setback, the Doma United coach remains optimistic about the club’s chances of securing promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League. He expressed confidence in his team and the club’s leadership ahead of their final group match against Barau FC of Kano.

"We will overcome all difficulties in our last match to determine who gets promoted into the NPFL 2026," he added.

The decisive fixture will determine which team secures a spot in Nigeria's top-flight league for the upcoming season.
