Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has rolled out a series of financial rewards and reaffirmed his commitment to Abakaliki FC, despite the club’s narrow loss to Kwara United in the 2025 President Federation Cup final held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos.
At a post-match reception in honour of the team, Governor Nwifuru praised the players for their valiant efforts and announced a range of incentives to boost morale and reposition the club for greater success.
Each player and member of the coaching staff will receive ₦1 million, while non-technical staff are to get ₦500,000 each. The governor also announced a ₦1 million donation to the Ebonyi State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) and ₦4 million to the club’s supporters.
In addition to the cash gifts, the governor assured that the club’s salaries would continue to be paid until November 2025, ensuring financial stability in the months ahead.
Governor Nwifuru ended his address with a clear directive to the team’s management — Abakaliki FC must secure promotion back to the Nigeria National League (NNL) next season.
The gesture has been widely praised as a show of genuine support for grassroots football development in Ebonyi State.
