Enyimba Football Club has joined the rest of the Nigerian football community in mourning the death of iconic former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, popularly known as "Dodo Mayana".
In an emotional statement released via the club's media, Enyimba Chairman, Ambassador Nwankwo Kanu, expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Rufai, describing him as a true patriot who gave his all whenever he wore the national colours.
“Peter Rufai was not just a teammate; he was an inspiration,” Kanu said. “His legendary performances in goal for the Super Eagles influenced an entire generation of players — including many who have proudly worn the Enyimba jersey.”
Kanu highlighted Rufai’s enduring impact on Nigerian football, noting that his legacy continues to shape the values and aspirations of young footballers across the country.
“We honour his memory, his service, and the pride he brought to the beautiful game,” Kanu added.
Peter Rufai, affectionately called "Dodo Mayana", remains one of Nigeria's most celebrated goalkeepers, having played at two FIFA World Cups and served as a vital figure in the nation’s golden era of football.
Enyimba FC extended heartfelt condolences to Rufai’s family and the wider football fraternity, describing his death as a monumental loss to the sport.
