Governor Sule Rewards Nasarawa United for NPFL Survival, Donates Bus and Cash

Nasarawa United FC have received a major boost following their impressive escape from relegation in the just concluded 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, as the Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, hosted the club at a special reception held on Friday at the Government House, Lafia.

According to Eche Amos, Head of Public Relations, Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, in recognition of the team’s resilience and turnaround, Governor Sule announced a financial reward of ₦20 million for the players and ₦5 million for the club’s Management and Technical crew. Additionally, the Supporters’ Club and the newly formed Nasarawa United Feeder Team each received ₦5 million from the state government.

Governor Sule also presented a brand new 18-seater Toyota Hiace bus to the club’s management as part of efforts to strengthen logistics and boost team morale. In a personal gesture of appreciation, he made a dollar cash donation to the players and coaches.

“Many people had given up on you,” Governor Sule remarked. “But you turned things around and not only escaped relegation but ended the NPFL season as one of the best-performing teams in Northern Nigeria.”

He commended the club’s commitment and teamwork and urged them to build on the momentum to achieve greater success in future seasons.

The State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, also lauded the club’s achievements, highlighting striker Anas Yusuf, who emerged as the league’s highest goalscorer with 18 goals.

He added that in line with the governor’s directive, a new Feeder Team had been established for Nasarawa United, which is already up and running.

The Chairman of Nasarawa United FC, Solomon Babanjah, was present to receive the bus keys on behalf of the team, while members of the Supporters’ Club and Feeder Team also witnessed the occasion.

The event formed part of a broader celebration of Nasarawa State’s sporting successes across multiple disciplines. However, the focus for Nasarawa United was clear — recognition of their spirited NPFL campaign and the state’s commitment to further support their growth.
