President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred national honours of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on members of the Super Falcons team and their technical crew following their triumph at the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The President made the announcement during a reception held in Abuja on Sunday, where he praised the team for their resilience, unity and excellence on the continental stage.
In addition to the national honours, each player of the victorious Nigerian squad received a cash reward of $100,000. The technical crew were also rewarded with $50,000 each.
Furthermore, all recipients have been allocated a three-bedroom apartment at the Renewed Hope Estate, a housing scheme under the Tinubu administration’s national development plan.
President Tinubu commended the Super Falcons for bringing glory to the nation and serving as an inspiration to millions of young Nigerians, especially girls who aspire to build careers in football. He described their performance at WAFCON 2024 as “a symbol of Nigeria’s unyielding spirit”.
Nigeria defeated hosts Morocco 3-2 in a thrilling final to win a record-extending twelfth African title. The achievement drew widespread acclaim from across the continent and earned the team a hero’s welcome upon their return to Abuja.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) had earlier praised the Nigerian side for their character and dominance throughout the tournament.
