Abia Warriors Football Club officially marked the start of the 2025/2026 campaign with a thanksgiving service at St. Peter’s Presbyterian Church Nigeria, Umuahia.
The event brought together the club chairman, board members, management, technical crew, players, staff and the supporters’ club, all united in gratitude to God and seeking His blessings for the new season.
According to the club’s media release, the ceremony has become a tradition for the Warriors ahead of every football season. The occasion featured praise and worship, a sermon, and special prayers dedicated to the club.
Speaking during the service, the Chairman of Umu Chineke, Coach John Obuh, thanked God for the club’s progress and appealed for continued prayers and support. Reverend Chinedu Okoroafor, Minister in-charge of the church, commended the initiative and urged the congregation to uphold the team in prayer as they prepare for another competitive season. The clergy also prayed for the players, management, and the club’s affairs.
Abia Warriors finished third in the Nigeria Premier Football League last season, securing a place in the 2025/2026 CAF Confederation Cup. They will represent Nigeria alongside Kwara United, winners of the 2025 President Federation Cup.
The Warriors will open their league campaign at home against former champions Kano Pillars on Sunday, 24 August 2025, at the Umuahia Township Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 4pm.
