Barau FC have officially announced the adoption of the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, as their temporary home ground for the upcoming 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
The decision was confirmed in a statement released on 2 August 2025 by the club’s Media Officer, Ahmad Hamisu Gwale, following approval from the Kano State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.
The Sani Abacha Stadium, which also hosts NPFL giants Kano Pillars, will serve as a substitute venue while Barau FC’s traditional base, the Dambatta Stadium, undergoes major renovation work to meet league standards.
Speaking to Arewa Radio, Barau FC Chairman, Ambassador Ibrahim Shitu Chanji, explained that the club was left with no option but to relocate temporarily. He reassured supporters that the move was a short-term solution aimed at ensuring the team competes under suitable conditions.
“Our fans should rest assured that Barau FC will use the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, as a temporary home ground until the Dambatta Stadium renovation is completed,” he stated.
Chanji also extended his appreciation to the Kano State Ministry of Youth and Sports and the General Manager of Kano Pillars, Ahmed Musa, for their assistance in facilitating the arrangement.
The ongoing upgrades at Dambatta Stadium are being financed by the club’s principal sponsor, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin.
Barau FC will begin their 2025/2026 NPFL campaign with a highly anticipated fixture against nine-time champions, Enyimba FC. The new league season is expected to commence at the end of August 2025.
