Enyimba FC head coach, Stanley Eguma, has declared that his ambition for the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign is to win the title or, at the very least, secure a continental ticket.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Enyimbafc.net, Eguma made his intentions clear as the team continue their pre-season preparations ahead of their opening fixture away to newly promoted Barau FC.
“Enyimba as a team have a target, and as a coach, an ambitious one at that, I equally have a target,” he said. “And my target should be to win the league or pick a continental ticket, at worst.
“Having achieved that in the past, I think I should be looking at something that will surpass my achievement. And that is what the club is looking at achieving as well. Remember, we’re nine-time champions of the NPFL and two-time African champions. I think anything short of that would not be a good achievement.”
Eguma, who joined the Aba giants in December last season, led them to a sixth-place finish after inheriting a team that was sitting 11th on the table at the time of his arrival.
He brings with him a wealth of experience, having won two NPFL titles and a Federation Cup with Rivers United, known previously as Dolphins. Notably, he was also an assistant to Okey Emordi during Enyimba’s successful defence of the CAF Champions League title in 2004.
The coach believes both personal ambition and collective effort will be key to surpassing past records.
“Before the management will set a target for me, I’ve already set one for myself, because I’m very ambitious, and I feel I have a lot to offer,” he added.
Eguma will now be hoping to turn Enyimba into serious title contenders once more, as the People's Elephant look to return to the summit of Nigerian club football.
